Franciscan Ware Apple Covered Vegetable Bowl U.S.A.1951
This listing is for one vintage Franciscan Ware covered vegetable bowl with two handles, handpainted in the apple pattern in California in 1951. The bowl is approx 9 1/2 inches wide (including the handles) and 4+ inches high. On the bottom, it says "Hand Decorated." In a circular design, "Franciscan Ware," and within the circular design "Made in California U.S.A." These are the markings of a mid-century Franciscan Ware piece. This vegetable bowl was part of my mother's original collection that she purchased in 1951. It was never used as a serving piece. It is in excellent vintage condition. In the photo there is a fine line of red paint to the left of the handle which is under the glaze. The piece came with this mark. In the photo, I also notice some areas of discoloration on the bottom of the bowl and around the apple handle on the lid. These areas are more noticeable in the photo, than when I look at the piece in my home. I am not sure, but my guess is that they are age-related, because there are no cracks, chips, crackling, or signs of repair on the piece. This is a rare piece with the markings indicating that it is 50+ years old. A replacement Franciscan Ware bowl of this type costs $59.00.
