Here is one of those clever vintage sugar bowls with the sugar tongs built in to the lid. The glass bowl is made of pressed glass with a 3D cube pattern on the sides and a star underneath. The lid is silver plated (marked EPNS) and has the patent number 14048 on one side of the tongs and the trade mark "SOS Pascall's Patent" on the other side. Did SOS stand for Save Our Sugar?
The bowl is 6 cms (2.5 inches) tall, 6.5 cms (2.6 inches) in diameter across the top, and 8.75 cms (3.5 inches) in diameter across the base. With the lid in place it is 7.5 cms (3 inches) tall. It weighs 350 grams.
The glass part of this item is in excellent used condition - I can find no chips or nibbles. The silver plating on the lid is worn in places from over enthusiastic polishing, but as the photographs show, it still polishes up very nicely. Overall, this is a very nice little bowl for your collection, and perfectly functional as the spring in the tongs is still in strong working order!
